"Outer Space" Design Fund Poster

June 28, 2011

This spring Design Is Love hosted another of their Design Fund projects. The contest was to design a poster with an "Outer Space" theme. The cool part was the winning design would be screen printed using a choice of 2 inks and 1 paper color. I chose the black speckle tone paper with a metallic gold and a white ink. I may make this available on my society6 page for purchase but I really think it works best with the ink and paper combo.

I'm definitely going to pick up a print of the winning poster for myself as well.

Weekly Works: Dirty Rotten Muties afterJames Stokoe

April 26, 2011

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I had gotten back into comics a bit. Not so much the collecting but checking out cool stories and rad art styles. A friend of mine turned me on to James Stokoe's work with Orc Stain, Wonton Soup, and Murderbullets. Stokoe creates, writes, draws, letters, and colors all of his mind blowing work himself.

This poster is inspired by Murderbullets, which you can read online here.

Weekly Works: The Larry Sanders Show - Totally LA

February 24, 2011

I've become completely obsessed with the poster that is on the wall of the writers room on The Larry Sanders Show. Right now IFC is showing reruns of the show, which I was too young to "get" when it originally aired. I've scoured the internet for this poster with no success. Back in the 90's these posters spoofed the "All I really need to know I learned in kindergarten" book written by Robert Fulghum.

As you can see there's more text to the original poster. Since I couldn't find the original anywhere, I figured I'd recreate it.

Weekly Works: Top 3 games 2010 - Red Dead Redemption

February 20, 2011

Finally my top favorite game of 2010 was Red Dead Redemption. What blew me away about the game was how well Rockstar was able to tell a structured and focused story within such a wide open world. I highly recomend playing this one all the way through to the end... the real end.

You can buy this poster and several others on my society6 page.

Weekly Works: Top 3 games 2010 - Mass Effect 2

February 12, 2011

My next favorite game of 2010 was Mass Effect 2. Really I should include the first Mass Effect, since the decisions and relationships carry over into the sequel and make both games in the series even better. I felt that the fish tank in Shepard's quarters was a nice metaphor for the rest of the game. You travel around the galaxy collecting your team members and nurturing your relationships with them between missions, in hopes that they will survive the journey.

Weekly Works: Top 3 games 2010 - Limbo

February 5, 2011

My top 3 games of 2010 series starts off with Limbo. A simple puzzle platformer with excellent physics and animation available on xbox live. What really sets Limbo apart as on of my favorites is it's peerless sounds design and visual style. The over all game experience is enhanced by the thoughtful presentation of story and mechanics through discovery rather than cut scenes, dialogue, or instructions. I suggest you try it.

Weekly Works: Orphans Muscle Horse

January 29, 2011

I've already used a lot of yellow in my posters, but what's an homage to Ryan Due and the Orphans moped gang from Brooklyn without the classic MBT red, yellow, black and white? Anyone who knows Ryan, understands his appreciation for horses, WWF, and Mortal Kombat. It only makes sense.

You can buy this poster and several others on my society6 page.

Weekly Works: Latebirds Zombie Sign

January 25, 2011

The Los Angeles Latebirds are my moped gang away from home. These dudes always make me feel welcome like a brother. I've always wanted to put a zombie finish on their gang hand sign, it's been asking for it.

You can buy this poster and several others on my society6 page.

Weekly Works: Peddy Cash Skyline

January 17, 2011

Threw together a quick Peddy Cash poster for tonight's post. Drawing on inspiration from a game I've been playing and some music I've been listening to. I used google earth's 3D feature to get an accurate skyline reference with a little perspective.

Weekly Works: Sweet Dee

January 12, 2011

To round out the It's Always Sunny series, I put together a Sweet Dee poster. By far the most hilarious part of her character, is the dry heaves she gets when she's nervous. I can't wait for next season.

Weekly Works: The Dynamic Duo

January 9, 2011

Continuing the It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia series with this poster of Mac and Dennis. This is from a deleted scene in the same episode as the Gruesome Twosome reference. After breaking up and then making up Mac says "Dynamic duo me bitch!" resulting in the masculin yet sexually awkward exchange pictured above.

Weekly Works: The Gruesome Twosome

January 4, 2011

The Weekly Works will be an ongoing series of content that I will create based on things that catch my attention throughout the week. The rules are simple. I use 1 topic, 1 size, 1 font, 3 colors (including white), and have fun.

For my first post I decided to go with something that really cracked me up. We recently finished watching all the seasons of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. In the 5th season Charlie and Frank (who may or may not be father and son) give their relationship a name... The Gruesome Twosome.
